Known for it's blueberry-fruited notes with hints of ginger & clove and has a nice thick sweetness and creamy body.

Coffee originated in Kaffa, which is in the southern Oromia region. Farmers have grown coffee bushes under the shade of forest trees on rolling hills rich soils, lush vegetation for thousands of years. Coffee grew wild on the Harar plateau before the existence of man.
longberryMohamed Addullahi Ogsadsey M.A.O. and his family are legendary in Ethiopia and have been growing this exceptional Harrar for many years based on Mr. Ogasadsey’s selection of premium cupping beans. You will be hard pressed to find a better representation of specialty quality from the birthplace of coffee. "Horse" in the name Ethiopian Harrar Horse stands for MAO Horse importers. "MAO" is the initials of the fellow that used to run the place, the late Mohamed Abdullahi Ogsadey, who perished in an unfortunate car accident a couple of years ago.
The bulk of the Ethiopian coffee is grown by small hold farmers and 12,000 tons by seven state-owned coffee estates. Certified organic Ethiopian coffee has only been available since 1999 when some producers were granted a waiver to bypass the government auction system. They can now sell direct to western importers through the cooperatives. This co-op also enables some of them to gain fair trade status, and receive a significant proportion of profits.

longberryLike other premium quality gourmet coffees, this Longberry Harrar coffee is picked by hand. Picking by hand takes numerous visits per tree each year, because coffee cherries do not all ripen at the same time (and of course we only want the “perfect” red cherries that only hand picking gives us). A single branch of a coffee tree might very well bear blossoms, green fruit, and ripe cherries – all at the same time.

Along with hand picking, this unwashed coffee is a full natural processed bean that has been sun dried on dirt patios. Depulping and removal of parchment are done mostly by hand. Natural processed and grown at the high altitude of 6000 ft above sea level in a dark, rich, and sandy loam soil type all give this coffee the unique characteristics it is known for.

A Somali king by birth, Mohamed Addullahi Ogsadsey M.A.O immigrated to Ethiopia. People said he walked the earth like the true king he was eagerly followed by gleeful children, hoping for the generous handouts he was known for. In a business of sharks, he was the epitome of honor. He never once fell below the very highest standards of the industry. He was an honorable man, who never cheated in business, and gave back to those at the bottom of the coffee chain who need it the most. “A good name is far better than a good deal of money” –m.a.ogsadey
